This month’s collective reading features a homemade Yule oracle by yours truly and The Magical Nordic Tarot by Jayne Wallace. I pulled out the “Enchantment” card from my homemade oracle, then pulled several cards from both decks around how we can bring in awe, reverence, and joy as we close out 2023 and enter 2024. I pulled “Snow” and “Nutcracker” from my oracle deck, and the Ace of Pentacles, King of Swords, and III The Empress from the Magical Nordic Tarot. The Magical Nordic Tarot adds keywords to its cards, and it used “luck” for Ace of Pentacles, “structure” for King of Swords, and “Nurture” for The Empress.
This month, allow yourself to be enchanted and to look at the world with a sense of wonder and awe. What did you used to believe in as a child that you no longer allow yourself to believe in because now you must live “in the real world?” Tales like the Nutcracker remind us of the magic inside of our current reality. My favorite character has always been Herr Drosselmeyer, the purveyor and enigmatic guide on Clara’s mystical journey to remind her not to abandon the beauty of belief and wonder as she grows up.
Allow yourself to look back on 2023 both with a critical lens and with a magical one. What have you imprinted with your own unique mark this year? Snow can be isolating and dangerous, but it can also present us with new paths to carve. And in the depths of perceived isolation, we can find comfort and warmth in ourselves, our guides, and our ancestors. What snowbanks have you carved your own path through this year? How can you continue to do so in the coming year? What are the nutcrackers in your life reminding you to believe in the seemingly impossible? And how can you make more time for them in the year to come?
We are seeding luck for ourselves this Yuletide by creating nourishing structures. Like a farmer gently stowing next year’s seeds, swaddled in warmth, we dream of the actions we will take as spring comes to bring forth greater abundance and joy. Use the coldness of this season to enhance your clarity. Eyes closed, mind open to the music of synchronicity, we bring ourselves into alignment with the flow of the universe. We prepare ourselves to greet that which we will birth into 2024 with quiet awe and childlike joy.
